Palisha Community-Based Organization (CBO) in Group Village Head (GVH) Katumbi conducted a two-day training for 8 Children’s Corner facilitators to address the shortage of service providers and improve the quality of services delivered in children’s forums within the community.

Previously, the Children’s Corner was managed by only one facilitator, which limited the ability to effectively conduct sessions and adequately support the increasing number of children. This situation affected the consistency and quality of activities, prompting the CBO to take deliberate steps to strengthen service delivery.

To respond to this challenge, the CBO organized the training using proceeds generated from a community business it had established. 8 facilitators and 3 teachers were trained .This approach reflects a strong commitment to sustainability and locally driven solutions in addressing community needs.

The training was facilitated by Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Katoto Kamwela, who provided structured guidance on Children’s Corner programming. The sessions covered key areas including the concept and significance of Children’s Corners, as well as the roles and responsibilities of facilitators in ensuring safe, inclusive, and child-friendly environments.

In addition, the training incorporated practical methodologies to enhance children’s engagement. Under the self-awareness component, facilitators were oriented on participatory tools such as the Tree of Life, Family Tree, Blanket Exercise, and Letter Box. These approaches are designed to help children express themselves, build self-confidence, and reflect on their personal experiences in a supportive setting.

The training also emphasized the promotion of child participation through interactive platforms such as debates and Child Parliament. These methods aim to empower children to articulate their views, develop critical thinking skills, and actively engage in decision-making processes on issues affecting their lives.

The initiative marked a significant step towards strengthening Children’s Corner services in GVH Katumbi. With an increased number of trained facilitators, the CBO is now better positioned to deliver consistent, high-quality, and inclusive services that promote the well-being and meaningful participation of children.
