In a significant step towards improving rice agricultural productivity and economic empowerment, Lusubilo Livelihood Support Project held a four-day capacity-building training for Lembuka Cooperative members from 23rd to 26th June 2025.

The training aimed to enhance cooperative governance and business skills among rice farmers, ultimately contributing to improved livelihoods and community resilience.

The training, facilitated by Trade and Agribusiness Officers from Karonga District Council focused on six key thematic areas that included cooperative principles, cooperative governance structure, leadership roles, conflict resolution, business planning, and marketing.

Lembuka Cooperative, based in TA Kilupula, is a player in the rice industry, and some of its members are beneficiaries of Lusubilo’s Livelihood Support Project. The project supports vulnerable rice farmers to improve their rice productivity, and the training was designed to enhance their business skills and knowledge.

By working with Lembuka Cooperative, Lusubilo Community Care aims to create a sustainable and thriving rice business that benefits its members and the wider community.

Facilitators of the training emphasized the critical role cooperatives play in empowering farmers to move beyond subsistence to commercial agriculture.
