KARONGA, 11 September 2026 — Lusubilo Community Care has launched its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, setting out a renewed direction for the organisation as it seeks to respond more effectively to the changing needs of vulnerable people in the communities.
The launch, held in Karonga, was attended by the Bishop of the Diocese of Karonga, Rt. Rev. Martin Mtumbuka, who was the Guest of Honor. The event also brought together Lusubilo staff, local leaders, government representatives and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the launch, Bishop Mtumbuka commended Lusubilo for developing the new Strategic Plan and encouraged the organisation to strengthen its collaboration with local leaders and communities to ensure that its interventions respond to the priorities of the people they serve.
“What we do should be related to what the communities want or what the communities see is important in helping vulnerable people in their communities,” said Bishop Mtumbuka.

He also encouraged Lusubilo to work closely with government officials, noting that government structures have knowledge and expertise that could support the organisation’s work.
Lusubilo Community Care Director Joseph Kimangila said the new Strategic Plan did not represent a complete change in the organisation’s direction, but rather an effort to adapt its approach to current challenges and improve the effectiveness of its work.
“As Lusubilo, we are saying that we are changing directions, but not as much. All we are doing is adapting to the current challenges and to the ways of dealing with current challenges so that we should be more efficient and more effective in what we do,” said Kimangila.
He said Lusubilo’s vision remained focused on helping people live life and live it in full, while its mission continued to centre on working with community structures to empower them to care for vulnerable people in their communities.
Kimangila said the new Strategic Plan outlines how Lusubilo will achieve its mission and strengthen its response to the challenges facing the communities it serves over the next five years.

Director of Planning and Development for Karonga District Council Gildrate Kavalo said the council would continue to support Lusubilo and other development partners by providing space for them to contribute to development.
He encouraged development partners to work together and jointly monitor their interventions to ensure better coordination and results. Kavalo added that the three councils where Lusubilo operates were ready to support its work and respond to issues in a timely manner.
Traditional leadership also welcomed the launch, with Senior Chief Kalonga describing the new Strategic Plan as a positive development for the community.
He pledged continued cooperation between the community and Lusubilo, saying he had worked with the organisation for 29 years and had witnessed its contribution to communities over the years.
Senior Chief Kalonga described Lusubilo as a household in the communities, highlighting its long-standing presence and contribution to supporting vulnerable people.
He added that the community would make an extra effort to work with Lusubilo to ensure the successful implementation of its plans.
