Lusubilo Community Care commemorated the life and legacy of its founder, the late Sr. Beatrice Chipeta, with a Memorial Mass held on Friday 7th August 2026, to honour her dedication to serving vulnerable communities.
The Memorial Mass brought together Lusubilo Community Care and Diocese of Karonga staff members and Sr. Beatrice Chipeta’s family members to remember her life, celebrate her contribution and reflect on the values that continue to guide Lusubilo’s work.
The Mass was presided over by the Vicar General of the Diocese of Karonga, Monsignor Lorent Dziko, assisted by Father John Brito, Chaplain of Lusubilo Community Care.
Speaking during the Mass, Monsignor Dziko thanked Lusubilo for organizing the Memorial Mass, describing it as an important opportunity to honour Sr. Beatrice’s life and legacy.
He encouraged Lusubilo staff to remain committed to serving communities in need and to continue the work with the same passion and dedication demonstrated by the organization’s founder.
“Sr. Beatrice was a passionate, loving and caring person. She was deeply concerned about the challenges faced by other people, especially those living in vulnerable situations,” said Monsignor Dziko.
He added that Sr. Beatrice was always touched by the difficulties faced by people in need and dedicated herself to finding ways of supporting them.
Representing the family, Sr. Beatrice’s niece described her as a role model whose life and work continue to inspire the family and those who knew her.
Lusubilo Community Care Director, Mr. Joseph Kimangila, said the organization has remained committed to carrying forward the work started by Sr. Beatrice.
He said that since her passing, Lusubilo has continued supporting children while expanding its work to address various challenges affecting communities.
“Since Sr. Beatrice passed on, Lusubilo has continued the work she started in caring for children and supporting communities. We are also implementing projects in agriculture, provision of potable water, women’s economic empowerment and gender-related interventions,” said Mr. Kimangila.
“We are doing a lot since Sr. Beatrice left us, and we continue to maintain her legacy by ensuring that the work she started continues to benefit vulnerable communities,” he added.
Born in Echiziweni Village Mzimba District, Sr. Beatrice Chipeta founded Lusubilo Community Care in 1997, dedicating her life to serving children, families and vulnerable communities. She died in 2019, but her commitment to improving the lives of others continues to shape the work of Lusubilo Community Care.
The Memorial Mass served not only as an occasion to remember Sr. Beatrice, but also as a reminder of the responsibility to continue the work she began. Her legacy remains an important part of Lusubilo Community Care’s identity and continues to inspire its efforts to support vulnerable communities and promote their well-being.
