Chikondi Mtambo from Mwamukumbwa in Chitipa District is now living a changed and hopeful life, thanks to the support she received through Lusubilo Community Care’s Integrated support for Orphans, Vulnerable Children and Youth (IOVCY) project.

Before joining the project, Chikondi’s family was facing serious challenges. They had no stable source of income, and putting food on the table was a daily struggle. Taking care of their three children both at home and in even failing to afford school materials for the children.

Things began to change when Chikondi was selected to be part of the IOVCY project. Through the project, she received K40,000 monthly for five months as consumption support. She also received K80,000 as farm input support, which she used to buy fertilizer for her maize and groundnut fields.

With the help of this support, Chikondi and her family were able to grow more food than ever before. In the recent farming season, they harvested 60 tins of maize and 7 tins of groundnuts much more than they had in previous years.

“Out of the 60 tins of maize, we sold 10 tins and used the money to buy 23 iron sheets for our house. We are now planning to build a better home for our family,” she said with a smile.

Chikondi didn’t stop at farming. With the confidence and skills she gained from the project, she started a small business buying and selling maize. From this business, she now earns an average profit of K48,000 per month.

“Life is better now, we have enough food at home, and our children are doing well in school. We are also living peacefully as a family.” she shared.

Chikondi is full of gratitude for the support she has received from Lusubilo. She believes her family’s future is bright and filled with more opportunities.

“I thank Lusubilo for lifting us up. The project has changed our lives, and in the coming years, we will be even better,” she said.

Lusubilo’s IOVCY project, which focuses on strengthening vulnerable families through food security, income generation, and child welfare, continues to bring real impact to many households in the northern region of Malawi.

Chikondi’s story is a clear example of how timely support and empowerment can transform lives and give families new hope.
