On 21st August 2025, 24 Community-Based Childcare Centres (CBCCs) from GVHs Mwaulambo, Katumbi, and Mwangomba came together for a learning visit facilitated by Lusubilo Community Care.

The meeting was hosted at Kakunje CBCC under Village Headman Msomba in GVH Mwangomba a centre recognized for performing well in CBCC management.

Karonga District Council Assistant Social Welfare Officer, Katoto Kamwela, applauded Lusubilo for bringing the CBCCs together, saying the initiative will go a long way in strengthening Early Childhood Development (ECD). He stressed the importance of collaboration between chiefs, local leaders, and CBCC committees.

“This is a good move because CBCCs can learn from each other. CBCCs are very important as they help shape children against bad behaviors. Chiefs must be at the forefront in supporting these centers, working hand in hand with local leaders and committees, because this is where children learn a lot before they go to primary school,” he said.

On his part, Acting Principal GVH Katumbi expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying the knowledge shared will help uplift the quality of early childhood education.

“We have learnt a lot today, and we will apply this knowledge in our CBCCs to improve education in our areas,” he said.

As a way forward, the CBCCs agreed to renovate their centers and ensure that within two months, all learning materials are made available, recognizing these as key resources for children’s growth and development.

The learning visit brought together Lusubilo staff, Group Village Headmen, Village Headmen, CBCC committees, and CBO members, all working with a shared commitment to strengthening ECD in Karonga.
